Nathan Cooley is currently in his sixth year of teaching.  Mr. Cooley teaches Honors Band, assists with the Symphonic, teaches all of the beginning brass class in addition to coordinating the entire program.  Mr. Cooley received is Bachelor of Education in Music from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX.  While at WTAMU Mr. Cooley studied with Dr. Gary Garner, Mr. Don Lefevre and Dr. Joseph Cox.  While at WTAMU Mr. Cooley performed in the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, University Jazz Band, Tuba Euphonium Ensemble and Buffalo Marching Band.  Also while at WTAMU Mr. Cooley performed as a feature section soloist at the Texas Band Masters Association convention performing The World is Waiting for the Sunrise and as a featured section soloist performing Napoli Variations.  Mr. Cooley can be heard on recordings from the 1996 Midwest Clinic and Convention and on several recordings of the WTAMU Symphonic Band. 

Prior to teaching at Hedrick Middle School Mr. Cooley was a private teacher and band consultant in Borger, Pampa, Canyon and Midland Texas.

Mr. Cooley's professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Band Masters Association.  Mr. Cooley is originally from Midland, Texas where he attended Robert E. Lee High School.

 

 

Jessica Flanagan is currently in her first year of teaching.  Miss Flanagan teaches the Symphonic Band, assists with the Wind Symphony and teaches all of the beginning woodwind classes at Hedrick Middle School. Miss Flanagan received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education Degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and her Masters of Music in Clarinet Performance from the University of North Texas, in Denton, Texas.  During her time at Texas Tech, Miss Flanagan studied clarinet with Dr. David Shea and performed in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble under Dr. Cody Birdwell’s direction. While at the University of North Texas, she studied clarinet with Dr. James Gillespie and was a member of the Wind Symphony under the direction of Eugene Migliaro Corporon, and the Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Ansel Brusilow.  Miss Flanagan can be heard on the Klavier Wind Recording Projects Allegories, Retrospectives, Poetics and Passions as a member of the UNT Wind Symphony.

Prior to her teaching position at Hedrick Miss Flanagan was an active private clarinet instructor at Downing Middle School and a Drill Technician/Sectional Instructor for Churchill High School in San Antonio, Texas and Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas. 

Miss Flanagan’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, and the International Clarinet Association.  Miss Flanagan is originally from San Antonio, Texas where she attended Douglas MacArthur High School.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Quiyan Murphy is in his 8th year of full time teaching in Texas and his 1st year at Lewisville High School.  Quiyan is a graduate of the University of North Texas where he participated in the World’s Most Dangerous Drumline as well as many other performance ensembles.  Quiyan began his unofficial teaching experience while in high school where he taught the drumline as well as private lessons to his classmates.

Quiyan’s drum corps experience includes performing with the now defunct Sky Ryders Drum & Bugle Corps from Hutchinson, KS and with the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps from Concord, CA.  As a member of the Blue Devils Quiyan served one year as the quad section leader and is a member of the Blue Devils Hall of Fame.  

Quiyan spent the last 7 years teaching at Newman Smith High School. During his tenure at Newman Smith Quiyan quadrupled the size of the percussion program from 4 to 17 percussionists. Additionally the Newman Smith percussion ensembles consistently earned superior ratings at the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest. Additionally the Newman Smith Percussion Ensemble was invited to perform at the 2002 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, IN.  Mr. Murphy’s additional teaching experience includes teaching summer camps and clinics at several programs around the metroplex as well as Hawaii and Canada.

Mr. Murphy is part of the Innovative Percussion educational team. In addition to being a busy educator and clinician he is married to Ellie Murphy and they are the proud parents of Naomi who never ceases to amaze them.
